Water sports in New Germany
Water skiing, swimming and even fishing on property that was once a farm field are all part of the plan for the Trophy Lake Estates development north of New Germany.
The development will be the fourth such project developer Grant Hustad has completed in Minnesota since July 2000.
The concept is an upscale, gated community built around three man-made lakes designed for water sports enthusiasts.
The lakes will be 2,300 feet long, with an average depth of six feet, and will provide optimum efficiency for water skiing, according to Hustad.
The power boats will be owned by the homeowners association, and only one boat is operated at a time. Jet Skiis are not allowed.
The lakes will be stocked with walleye, bass, and yellow perch. Residents in the development will have access to shore fishing in the summer and ice fishing in the winter.
Hustad said the developments are environmentally friendly, provide storm water retention, and prevent erosion issues. They are all located on sites that naturally collect water.
The 160-acre site north of 62nd Street and west of Carver County Road 33 is in agricultural preserve until February 2009, so no homes can be started until then, but preliminary grading could start sooner.
The city recently reached an agreement with Hollywood Township to annex the property into the city.
Hustad placed the project on hold in July until the Metropolitan Council approves the city’s new comprehensive plan, and until Hustad receives assurance that sanitary sewer hookups will be available.
The city is working with the Met Council regarding construction of a new wastewater treatment plant, and the city will not have additional sewer capacity until this is complete.
