Water Usage
Due to a high volume of water usage, the city council adopted a policy for high volume users. Please contact the city office at (952) 657-1203 for amounts, or go online to: www.cityofmayer.com
The current charge for sewer is $14.00 base rate minimum, with a $5.75 per 1,000 gallon charge.
There is also an MPFA Replacement Fund charge of $.10 per 1,000 gallons of flow per month.
Water service may be turned off whenever any charge for utilities by the present or former owner/occupant is unpaid.
Watering lawns is allowed under the odd and even day policy during specific hours only. Call the city office at (952) 657-1203 for more information.
If you are moving or selling your property, contact the city and inform them of the new owner and the date you will be moving. This allows for a final meter reading to be taken.
Rubbish removal /recycling
Waste Management, Inc., provides wheeled containers for residents’ use. Contact the city office for any change in service. Currently, the rate is $6.40 per month, not including tax, for a 64-gallon container, and $7.40 per month for a 96-gallon container.
Garbage pickup is every Friday. Single-sort yellow-topped recycling carts are picked up every other Friday. Containers should be curbside by 7 a.m. Pickup will occur on Saturdays during holiday weeks. Refuse charges appear on the monthly utility bill sent by the city. Please call if there are any questions.
Brush/compost site
The city provides a location for city residents to dispose of brush and compost materials. Materials may be brought to the Wastewater Treatment Facility, west of Mayer on County Road 30, on Saturdays from 9 a.m.- noon (spring through fall). Proof of residency is required.
The compost site will be closed on Saturday, May 24, Saturday, Sept. 5, and Saturday, Aug. 30, 2008.
Only grass clippings, leaves, and soft garden waste will be accepted at the compost site. Brush no larger than four inches in diameter will be accepted at the brush site.
Building permits
Under the state building code, building permits are required for any improvements, such as new construction, remodeling, new residency, reroofing, window replacement, furnace replacement, decks, basement refinishing, fireplace or wood stove installation, fences, and utility sheds.
All applications, instructions, and questions can be directed to the city planner at (952) 657-1502. A permit is required prior to beginning any work.
Dog licenses
Residents are limited to three dogs/cats per household and licenses are required for all dogs over six months of age. The license fee is $10 annually ($7.50 for neutered dogs). All applications for licenses must be accompanied by a statement from a veterinarian indicating that the dog has current vaccinations. The license is valid for one year and expires on the first day of January each year.
Dogs need to be leashed or under the control of a responsible person. Any dogs found running at large will be picked up and impounded. Impound and penalty fees will be the owner’s responsibility.
Snow removal
No person shall park or leave a motorized vehicle on any street within the city during or after a snowfall or period of blowing snow until that street has been cleared of snow. No overnight parking is allowed on State Highway 25 (Ash Avenue) from November to April.

Abandoned vehicles
No person shall park, store, leave, or permit the parking, storing, or leaving of any abandoned vehicle or any vehicle which is in a wrecked, junked, partially dismantled, or inoperative condition upon any property.
