Mayer Fire Department
The fire department has been offering its services to the citizens of Mayer and the surrounding area for more than a century.
Meeting the first Monday of every month, the fire department is always on hand to respond to emergency situations.
Fire Chief Rod Maetzold, Assistant Chief Bob Carlson, Secretary Pat Esser, and training officers Adam and Andy Maetzold also take part in community events.
The fire department hosts spring and fall fish fries, makes annual visits to the schools, and hosts events outlining fire prevention.

Mayer Riverside 4-H Club
Variety is the name of the game for the Mayer Riverside 4-H Club. Leaders Jodi Luebke and Colleen Kelzer direct youth in a variety of activities that “cover the whole gamut.”
Youth can learn about animals, science, biology, gardening, photography, and more. Both individual and group work is encouraged, and the whole family can participate.
The club meets the third Monday of every month at 7:15 p.m. at Mayer Community Center, September through May.
Project tours run June through August. Youth can participate in county fairs and the state fair.

Mayer Baseball Club
The Mayer Baseball Club’s 35 members meet the second Monday of every month at 7 p.m. at Uncle Ron’s Smokehouse.
Their goal is to support both the youth of the community in athletics and the Mayer Blazers town baseball team.
They put on clinics for youth and recently, have been working hard on the town’s new baseball park, Memorial Field, located in Old School House Park.
The Blazers started in 1906, and the club was organized during the Great Depression.
The club participates in various fund raising activities and occasionally hosts the regional baseball tournament.
Leading the club are President Fred Gongoll, Vice President Joe Berrios, Secretary Tice McPadden, and Treasurer Harvey Ziermann.

Mayer and New Germany Sportsmen Club
The Mayer Sportsmen Club started more than 50 years ago, and has since evolved to become the Mayer and New Germany Sportsmen Club.
The big club event takes place in February, when firearms instruction classes are taught to people 12 years old and older. The classes are taught by the club’s six state certified firearms instructors.
President Curt Heldt, Secretary June Braith, and Treasurer Sandy Heldt help to lead the club’s 20 members.
Meetings take place quarterly at the Mayer Community Center.
Experienced firearms instuctors inculde Doug Ernst, Chris Capaul, Jerry Pauman, Stan, Sandy, Charlie, and Beth Heldt.
